Seismic Safety Meets Mission-Critical IT
By: GSD
Global Seismic Data is proud to announce the successful installation of eight state-of-the-art SeismicDataSensors™ at NTT’s new SV1 Data Center in Silicon Valley.
SV1 delivers 16MW of critical IT load across 64,000 ft² of data floor space, and is distinguished by its advanced base isolation system designed to safeguard people and critical infrastructure during seismic events.
Global Seismic Data’s installation includes sensors placed both beneath and above the base isolation system to monitor energy dissipation, floor displacement, and torsional movement. Additional sensors positioned in opposite corners of the building provide a complete picture of structural response.
The system operates 24/7, correlating seismic data with USGS earthquake records. Comprehensive reports are available to building engineers and facility managers, enabling rapid post-event assessments.
“Our work at SV1 underscores the importance of advanced monitoring for mission-critical facilities,” said Steven McLauchlan, Global Operations Director at Global Seismic Data NZ. “By combining real-time monitoring with validated seismic event data, we help ensure business continuity and peace of mind for NTT and its clients.”
